The Truth About Motivation

What is motivation?

The dictionary defines motivation as 'a reason or reasons for acting or behaving in a particular way. It is what causes you to act.'

Having a burst of motivation sounds great, right?

But, if this motivation causes you to act, then doesn't that also mean if you lack motivation on a particular day then this will cause you to NOT ACT???

The problem with motivation is it comes in waves. One day we can have a surge of motivation and smash out a session, hit our calorie goal, reach our 10k daily steps, ooo and we are completely hydrated (and peeing 20 f***ing times a day). Then the following day, we don't really feel like doing anything. You might have the best intentions in the world on a Monday morning, but by Friday you're just kind of fed up with the process and back to square one - Anyone say drinks? What about a takeaway? Can't have a Sunday without a morning fry! Sound familiar?

This happens so many people!

What you really need is commitment - Making a commitment involves 'dedicating yourself to something.' Commitment is demonstrated when a person consistently demonstrates specific behaviours and activities that are likely to directly result in the best performance.

What this really means is - make a plan and continue to follow your plan, even when you don't feel motivated to.

So are you taking action to reach your goals? Or are you waiting for a burst of energy and motivation to get you going and desperately hoping this motivation will never falter (let me tell you quite brutily - it will!!)

If you want to change your mindset then take action and ask for help!
